WSIA Music Department
It takes a lot for a band or artist to "make it." Some records never
actually see the light of day. Others do, but without the right push,
no one would ever know. This is where college stations become very
important. If a record does very well at college (because listeners
call and request it!) labels will be more than happy to promote that
band. This way you are very aware of that record on the shelf at your
local music store. Here at WSIA we want to make sure that you are NOT
going to the store to pick it up because you heard one song on the
commerical station ten times a day. Here at WSIA, we want you to
anticipate that record's arrival BECAUSE in three weeks you heard two
different songs from that artist and couldn't wait for the CD to
finally drop!
Our job at WSIA is to be the only place in New York City exposing you
to the best up and coming rock (and most genres of it!) acts.
Specialty shows spice up our programming, bringing a change of pace
during the evenings. This is when WSIA recognizes the newest breaking
artists in other genres such as hip hop, dance, and industrial.
We speak regularly with record labels like Roadrunner, Victory, Mute,
Metal Blade, Sony, and Capitol, to name a few. On a weekly basis WSIA
creates top 30 and top 10 charts, which are published in College
Music Journal (CMJ) Magazine.
WSIA accepts local submissions! As long as the record sounds
professional and fits the format, our airwaves are your airwaves!
